Services Available for Students Enrolled or Residing in CUSD 429

If you suspect that your child has a learning problem, your child may be eligible to receive services for special education.  Currently the district is following the stat initiative known as "Response to Intervention."  This initiative support the No Child Left Behind law by requiring all districts to offer supportive services for students before they can access special education services.  More information about this process will be available soon.  However, what is wonderful about this initiative is that ALL students can receive the support they need before they get too far behind their peers.  You may request an evaluation for special education services y writing a letter to your building principal.  Please include your child's name, date of birth, grade level, and your specific concerns.  Once this letter is received, the district will schedule a meeting to discuss your concerns and to determine whether or not an evaluation is required.  Your child may be best served by the interventions that are in place within the regular school program. However, your child may also require special education and related services and a case review may be recommended.  Disabilities served by the district include the disability areas identified by the ISBE which are:  Deaf-Blindness, Deafness, Developmental Delay, Emotional Disturbance, Hearing Impairment, Cognitive Delay, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairment, Other Health Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, Speech/Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Visual Impairment. Additional information can be found at the ISBE website: http://www.isbe.net/ under special education and response to intervention.
