The Red Oaks Project has provided our school district with a framework for a vision of educational and organizational excellence.  Therefore, it is imperative that our school district continue to return to the ideals of this document and use those ideals as a foundation for the implementation of reforms and initiatives that will lead to the continuous improvement of the school district.  Please join our professional staff in making the Red Oaks Project a living and breathing document for the betterment of the Hinckley-Big Rock School District.

 Hinckley-Big Rock CUSD #429 Learning Environments

During 2004-2005, the district utilized a community based process to define its learning beliefs and guiding principles. Through the process, the Board of Education working with the community and schools established that:

Values and Beliefs-

  • All Children Can Learn and Be Successful  
  • The District needs One Educational Vision
  • Educations is to be Fair and Equitable for All  
  • All Children are to be Learning All of the  Time in All Settings 
  • The Education System must be Ethical & Honest
  • The District must be Unified

The Education and Curriculum Development should -

  • Have Teaching based on Proven Instructional Practices
  • Be Focused on Continually Improved Student Learning
  • Be Aligned to State Learning Standards
  • Be an Education Community that is held Accountable for Implementation of its Curriculum
  • Use Technology to Facilitate and Support the Curriculum  

Assessment & Accountability -

  • Service Providers should have Community Feedback
  • Should prepare Students to Measure their Own Learning
  • Should be Data Driven
  • Teachers will be Responsible for Curriculum Alignment & Implementation
  • Evaluation is Ongoing and Varied
  • Should Lead Students to be Adequately Prepared to Make Post-Graduation Choices
  • Teachers will keep Abreast of Current Practices & Subject Matter Expertise
  • Teachers will use Assessments to Guide Instruction 

Ideals  

  • Students will be: Enthusiastic, Inquisitive, Motivated, Compassionate, Literate & Goal-Oriented
  • Teachers will be: Student-Centered; Responsible, Moral, Creative, Knowledgeable, Focused on  Standards, Flexible  & Tolerant, Masters of Subject & Craft, Team Players, Collegial

  • There will be Common Attendance Centers 
  • After-School Enrichment will be Provided
  • Instruction will be Research & Data Driven
  • Preschool Opportunities will be Sought
  • Elders will be Learners and Teachers
  • Structure of school day/year will be Examined
