Substitute teachers must register each school year with the Regional Office of Education located at 2500 N. Annie Glidden Road, Suite C, in DeKalb in order to substitute in the Hinckley-Big Rock School District (or anywhere in DeKalb County). Please call the Regional Office at 815-217-0460 or 815-217-0464 to re-register for the 2009-10 school year.

Initial sub lists will be sent to all school districts in August before the start of the school year. To be on this initial list, a sub must contact the Regional Office before August 1, 2009. Those who miss that cut off will be published on the list in September.

If you are an HBR429 retiree, you can sub in the Hinckley-Big Rock District without registering at ROE as long as your certificate is current. To substitute anywhere else in the country, you must register.

On June 8, 2009, Dr. Jim Hammack welcomed the entire staff of the Hinckley-Big Rock School District and School Board members Bill Horoszko, Deb Winkle and Roger Klein to the Royal Recognition luncheon held in the high school cafeteria. Staff members celebrating an anniversary with the district (5, 10, 15, 20 etc) plus 7 retirees were honored for their service to the school district.

Retiring were Mr. Don Witte, middle school Social Studies, Mrs. Maureen Witte, elementary special education, Ms. Peg Rozhon, Special Education Co-ordinator, Mrs. Mary Thurow, high school business, Mrs. Ginny VanHooser, Para-professional, Mrs. Cheryl Boyce, District Treasurer and Mr. Ed Baie, Bus Driver. Mr. Baie has served the students of Hinckley-Big Rock for over 40 years. His wife, Doris, received a plaque honoring her 35 years of service.
